World Breastfeeding Week Celebration

The World Breastfeeding Week Celebration was organized by the Vidhyadeep Institute of Nursing, Vidhyadeep University, Surat, Gujarat from 1st to 7th August 2025 at the Seminar Hall, Vidhyadeep Institute of Nursing, Smimmer Hospital, under the theme “Priorities Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System.” Chaired by Dr. Vinil U. (I/C Dean) and coordinated by Ms. Anjali Patel (Assistant Professor) and Ms. Kinjal Patel (Nursing Tutor), the week-long program aimed to promote awareness of breastfeeding’s health benefits and the need for supportive environments for mothers and infants. Activities included educational seminars and guest lectures by healthcare experts, hands-on workshops on lactation counseling for nursing students and healthcare providers, poster and slogan competitions to encourage creative advocacy, community outreach initiatives at Smimmer Hospital to engage mothers and families, and interactive Q&A sessions. The event brought together faculty, students, healthcare workers, and community members to share knowledge, strengthen skills, and align with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) global initiative.


Objectives of the Celebration

-To create awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for both infant and mother.

-To educate healthcare professionals, nursing students, and the community about sustainable breastfeeding practices.

-To provide a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and support systems for breastfeeding mothers.

-To align with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) initiative for World Breastfeeding Week.

 

 

Planned Activities During the celebration week, the following activities are expected to be organized: Educational Seminars & Guest Lectures on breastfeeding benefits and techniques. Workshops for nursing students and healthcare workers on counseling and lactation support. Poster & Slogan Competitions to promote awareness. Community Outreach Programs at Smimmer Hospital to educate mothers and families. Interactive Q&A Sessions with healthcare experts. Expected Outcomes Enhanced understanding of the benefits of breastfeeding. Strengthened skills among nursing students and healthcare providers to support breastfeeding mothers. Increased community awareness on creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding.


Outcome of the Program :


Nursing students and healthcare professionals gained enhanced skills in lactation counseling, positioning, and effective communication with breastfeeding mothers. The community outreach programs successfully engaged a wide audience of mothers, families, and caregivers, leading to increased understanding of the nutritional, emotional, and developmental benefits of breastfeeding. Poster and slogan competitions stimulated creative advocacy, spreading key messages within and beyond the campus. Guest lectures and interactive sessions provided evidence-based insights, dispelled myths, and encouraged the creation of supportive networks for new mothers. Overall, the event strengthened collaboration between academic institutions, healthcare providers, and the community, aligning local efforts with the global WABA mission for sustainable breastfeeding support systems.
