Free Legal Aid and Health Check-up Camp by Vidhyadeep Law College at Asnad Village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan
As part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative, Vidhyadeep University’s Law Department organized a Free Legal Aid and Free Health Check-up Camp at Asnad village, Olpad Taluka on 12th September 2025. The event was hosted at Shri M.M. Patel Asnad Madhyamik School with the active participation of law students, faculty members, medical professionals, and local authorities. The camp aimed to spread legal awareness, provide free medical assistance, and strengthen the connection between higher education institutions and rural communities.
Objective of the Camp
The primary purpose of this initiative was to educate villagers about their legal rights, ensure access to basic legal advice, and promote health awareness through free medical check-ups. By integrating law and health services, the program addressed two crucial areas—justice and wellbeing—which directly impact the progress of rural societies.
Inauguration and Support from Community Leaders
The camp was inaugurated with the gracious presence of I/C Principal Dr. Hemal Shastri of Vidhyadeep Law College, who was warmly welcomed by the villagers. The event was organized with the support of village Sarpanch Mr. Lalubhai Rathod, Deputy Sarpanch Mr. Ketanbhai, and the school’s respected Principal Mr. Chandrakant Solanki. Their cooperation ensured smooth execution of the program and active participation of the local community.
Leadership and Coordination
The camp was efficiently coordinated by Assistant Professors Ms. Reena Jain and Ms. Siddhi Dalwala from Vidhyadeep Law College. They played a vital role in guiding students and ensuring that both legal and medical services were delivered effectively. The efforts were further supported by teachers of the host school, Ms. Krishnaben Patel and Ms. Rinalben Patel, who contributed actively to mobilizing students and villagers for the event.
Legal Awareness Sessions for Students and Villagers
One of the most impactful segments of the camp was the legal awareness session conducted by law students of Vidhyadeep Law College. They interacted with schoolchildren and villagers, simplifying complex laws and explaining their relevance in daily life. Some of the key acts discussed included:
- Juvenile Justice Act – Protecting the rights of minors.
- POCSO Act – Safeguarding children against sexual offenses.
- Child Labour Act – Ensuring children are not exploited for work.
- Right to Education (RTE) Act – Promoting free and compulsory education for children.
Through real-life examples and interactive discussions, law students ensured that the audience understood how these laws safeguard them and how to seek help in case of violations.
Free Medical Check-up by Expert Doctor
Following the legal awareness sessions, a free health check-up camp was organized for schoolchildren and villagers. The camp was led by renowned Surat-based doctor, Dr. Mohd. Anas Khan, who conducted medical examinations and provided essential health advice. Many villagers benefitted from this initiative, receiving consultations and guidance on preventive healthcare.
Awareness about NALSA and Lok Adalat
Alongside medical services, villagers were also educated about the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and its mission—“Ujaas: A Ray of Hopeâ€. Information was provided about Lok Adalats, which serve as alternative forums for dispute resolution, offering quicker and cost-free justice. This segment helped the rural community understand how they could access free legal aid and resolve disputes without unnecessary delays.
Outcome and Community Impact
The camp turned out to be a remarkable success, achieving its goal of bridging the gap between legal education, healthcare, and rural development. Key outcomes included:
- Increased legal literacy among villagers, especially schoolchildren.
- Improved health awareness through free medical check-ups.
- Strengthened bond between Vidhyadeep Law College and the community.
- Student empowerment, as law students gained real-world exposure in delivering legal awareness.
Conclusion
The Free Legal Aid and Health Check-up Camp at Asnad village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan reflected the commitment of Vidhyadeep University’s Law Department towards social responsibility, community service, and holistic education. By combining legal education with healthcare outreach, the initiative not only benefitted the villagers but also nurtured a sense of responsibility among future legal professionals.
Such initiatives highlight how universities can play a transformative role in empowering rural communities, spreading legal awareness, and promoting health and justice for all.
