  1. On July 4, 2025, the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at Vidhyadeep Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre meticulously organized an enriching academic visit to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Surat. This crucial educational outing was specifically designed for 2nd-year students, offering them an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the tangible applications of forensic science. The visit was expertly guided by Dr. Rachna Gohil, Dr. Unnati Patel, and Dr. Dhara Patel, who provided invaluable insights and facilitated a comprehensive learning experience throughout the day.

The primary purpose of this academic visit was to expose students to the real-world operational environment of a forensic science laboratory, allowing them to witness firsthand how theoretical concepts are translated into practical investigative procedures. The curriculum for forensic science often covers complex methodologies and analytical techniques; however, observing these in action within a professional setting significantly enhances comprehension and retention. Students had the privilege of touring a diverse array of specialized laboratories and sections, each critical to the overarching field of forensic investigation. These included the Forensic Biology lab, where the analysis of biological evidence takes place; the Chemistry lab, focusing on chemical compositions and reactions relevant to crime scenes; the Physics lab, which often deals with trace evidence and accident reconstruction; and the cutting-edge DNA Profiling unit, a cornerstone of modern forensic identification. Additionally, they explored the intricate world of Fingerprint Analysis, the crucial Toxicology section for identifying poisons and drugs, the Serology lab for blood and bodily fluid analysis, and even a Psychological Lab, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of forensic science.

Among the many highlights of the visit, students were particularly captivated by a live demonstration of fingerprint lifting techniques, a fundamental skill in crime scene investigation. They also observed the meticulous process of blood and various biological sample analysis, understanding the precision required in handling such critical evidence. Furthermore, the detection of toxic substances in biological fluids was explained and demonstrated, showcasing the vital role toxicology plays in determining causes of death or impairment. This practical exposure underscored the importance of each specialized area and its contribution to solving complex cases. The organizing department extended its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. K.K. Modh Sir, Jyoti Madam, Viragama Sir, Salil Sir, and the entire FSL staff for their warm reception, invaluable time, and comprehensive explanations, which made the visit incredibly informative and engaging. The overarching outcome of this educational initiative was the provision of an exceptionally insightful experience that successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and the practical realities of forensic science, leaving the students with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this critical field.
