The Vidhyadeep Institute of Commerce, Vidhyadeep University, conducted an enriching Expert Talk on “Behavioral Finance and Smarter Investment Decisions†on 4th September 2025 at the Seminar Hall, B-Building. The session was part of the institute’s commitment to providing students with practical exposure to emerging concepts in finance. With around 150 students in attendance, the program was a remarkable success.
The session featured distinguished speaker Dr. Divyang Joshi, CFO and Associate Professor at Parul University, Baroda. Dr. Joshi began by introducing the foundation of Behavioral Finance, a field that explains how human emotions, biases, and irrational patterns influence financial decisions. He explained that even  he most knowledgeable individuals may make flawed investment choices due to psychological factors.
He elaborated on key behavioral biases such as:
 Overconfidence bias – investors believing they know more than they actually do
 Loss aversion – the fear of losing money leading to poor decisions
 Herd behavior – blindly following market trends
 Anchoring – relying too heavily on initial information
Using real-life examples, market scenarios, and case studies, Dr. Joshi demonstrated how these biases impact investment outcomes. He encouraged students to think critically, assess risks carefully, and adopt a disciplined approach to financial planning.
The expert also covered essential aspects of smarter investment decisions, emphasizing:
 Risk management techniques
 Importance of diversified portfolios
 Understanding market volatility
 Long-term vs short-term investment mindsets
 Emotional control during market fluctuations
The interactive format of the session allowed students to actively engage, ask questions, and receive personalized guidance on financial issues. The Q&A segment proved particularly valuable, as students discussed topics like SIPs, equity markets, mutual funds, and personal finance strategies.
The event was successfully conducted under the leadership of Principal Dr. Sachin Godhani and coordinated by Ms. Rinal Patel from the Vidhyadeep Institute of Commerce. The collaborative efforts of the faculty and organizing team ensured a smooth and productive session.
